two minds two voices.

It’s been approximately two weeks since we welcomed Syawal and I hope all of you enjoyed, or are still enjoying the festive season unlike me… why? Because I have been sick since the 4th day of raya. I know, it sucks. I had plans on going out to visit more of my friends’ houses but I got really sick to the point that I could not leave my bed. I’m much better now compared to the first week, Alhamdulillah but I am on the verge of losing my voice. Sigh. That’s okay. I hope I’ll get better before semester starts, which will be next weeek! Yikes.

So today I want to talk about my makeup on the 4th day of raya, before I got really sick which was inspired by Jenn Im’s Girl Next Door! I got the idea to talk about them because of my friend, Diyana Amin. She asked me something about makeup and I showed her the picture and I thought, hey why not blog about this! So here I am! She’s also a blogger guys, go check her out at diyana-a.blogspot.com!

So lets get started!

First, base makeup which consists of primer, foundation, concealer and setting powder.
For the primer I used, benefit’s porefessional. I have to say this is one of the Holy Grail products! No one can say no to this product, NO ONE. I love how its very light on the face, it doesn’t give that gooey feeling like some primers do and it really does hide your pores. So I just put a reasonable amount on my face, because honestly you only need a bit. A bit goes a long way with this one guys.

So next, foundation. For foundation, I mix Cyber Colors’ Essence UV Liquid Foundation and Lo’Real True Match Foundation. I know in my previous make up post I said I wouldn’t change my foundation because I really loved my Revlon foundation but I ran out of it and I searched the whole of Brunei for it and they didn’t have the shade that I want. I KNOW. I was devastated so I bought the Lo’Real foundation out of desperation but I have to say it does its job but it makes my face oily after a while.

As for Cyber Colors’, I bought this when I was in Singapore when I was searching for the Revlon foundation as well but then I got this one instead. So far I’m really loving this product… It covers up well, it doesn’t make my face that oily and it’s very light on the skin. Which I love because I hate suffocating my skin with heavy foundation. So, I mix both of the foundation and just dab it all over my face with my beauty blender.

Concealer, I used Revlon’s ColorStay concealer and I honestly just concealed under my eyes because everything else has been covered up by the foundation. Mostly. Which I really really love too! So after everything is done, I set my face with Bare Mineral’s Mineral Veil. I’m loving this product too because, again, it’s very lightweight, and it’s translucent so it doesn’t add color to my skin.

On to the brows, I love doing my brows after I have finished the base makeup and before I work on my eyes. I don’t know why but it’s become a habit and I like it like that too. So I used, Benefit’s Browzings in the shade “dark”. Honestly at first I didn’t like this product but I just kept using it because I thought it would be a waste. Though eventually I came to like it and I use it everyday now. So yay! I don’t know how to describe me doing my eyebrows because again, I have not mastered in this area yet but I’ll just tell you how I did it anyway. First, I brush my eyebrows so it won’t look like it’s all over the place and then I just slowly fill in my eyebrows with the product. I just follow the shape of my eyebrows because I don’t pluck them. I don’t know how but I don’t really care about them anyway. Haha. So after I fill them in, I put some concealer besides my eyebrows (if that makes sense) to make it less messy.

As for the eyes, I don’t use any eye primer because I don’t own one and that has to change but I don’t really use eye shadow that much anyway so I guess that’s why I still don’t have it till now. So I go straight on the eye shadows and I used the NAKED 3 palette, BUT before that I used the NYX Eye Jumbo Pencil in Yoghurt as the base of my eye shadow and I love love the color. It’s really pretty. And after that I go on and took the shade “Limit” and just place that all over my lid and to the inner corner of my eyes. Then I took a brown pencil liner and just draw a line with a slight wing and took the shade “Liar” and just blend it with the brown eyeliner. And lastly I took the shade “Factory” and just place them in the middle towards the end of my eyes. After everything, I just blend them all together.

NEXT! Eyeliner and Mascara. For eyeliner, I used Stilla’s “stay all day waterproof liquid eye liner” and just draw a slight cat eye, which I just realized I am terrible at so I hope you guys can do that with ease! I didn’t like the way it looked on me when I did it. Sigh. That’s okay. So for the eyelashes, first I curl my lashes and put on an eyelash base from Etude which I bought in Singapore as well. I’m not so sure if they sell it here though. I have to check that out soon. So anyway, after I apply them to my eyelashes then I applied my favorite mascara, YES still the NYX Le Chick Flick waterproof mascara. I love this product. And good news everyone! I know some people say that even with waterproof eyeliners and mascaras, they will still smudge if you have an oily face BUT guess what! They did not smudge at all! I kid you not. I was happy I didn’t have to rub off the smudges under my eyes. Finally.

Almost done guys, next are the bronzer, blusher and highlighter. For the bronzer I use NYX’s Matte Bronzer and just use the “3” technique to apply them on my face. I’ve been loving this bronzer as it doesn’t make my face look dark and it’s very lightweight as well. I am all for lightweight product guys. Then I go on to apply the blusher I use from this NAKED FLUSHED palette, and I love this color too, it’s not too pink, it gives out that “rosy cheeks” look which you know I love so much. I used the highlighter from the palette as well, and just apply them on the highest part of my cheeks and on the centre of my nose.

Last but not least, the lips! I used Estee Lauder’s lipstick in the shade CANDY. This is such a nice color. I love this lipstick and as you can see, I’ve used most of them and it doesn’t look pretty anymore. Sorry for that guys!

SO, that is all! I know this is such a long post but I figured that I’d talk about it. Till next time guys.

It’s Raya tomorrow everybody! If you’re living in Brunei that is, if you’re in Malaysia or in other countries, I bet you’re already full by stuffing all those yummy food in your tummy, especially Raya cakes. Mmmm.

While those in Brunei just finished our last day of puasa for this year and I know that most of you are still not done cleaning your houses even when it’s Raya tomorrow. Tsk tsk, you guys shouldn’t procrastinate a lot and start cleaning your houses earlier. Ha! Who am I kidding? My house is still not ready for Raya! I have been telling myself to clean the house for a few days and I have only started cleaning yesterday. Sigh. But don’t worry; I’ll make sure the house is ready for tomorrow.

Anyhow, I’m not going to blab more on that but instead, I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a blessed Eid Mubarak! I sincerely apologize for all my wrongdoings whether it was intentionally or otherwise. I know I have made a lot of mistakes in the past and I will for sure make more mistakes in the future but I am deeply sorry all the mistakes that have hurt any of you in any way possible.

I’m only human; it’s inevitable for us not to make any mistakes but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel bad for all the mean things that I have done. I’m not sure if all my mistakes will be forgiven or not but here I am, apologizing for my mistakes. It doesn’t matter if I am not forgiven but at least I apologized and that’s what matters most to me.

Over the years I have learned many things, and when I say many, I mean A LOT. I have grown to know which is ACTUALLY right and wrong. And in the process of me getting to know these things, mistakes were made and I don’t regret any of them at all. Yes you may think, “You don’t regret hurting someone at all?” Of course I do, but then again all the mistakes I have made, I take those as lessons for the future so I won’t make the same mistakes again.

It was hard for me accept my mistakes at first, I would get upset for days, I would shut people out but after that I realized, wow, that was not a good feeling. I was lonely, I was cranky and everything else. I didn’t like how I felt when I was upset and with that I told myself I need to change the way I think.
I trained myself to accept my mistakes and turn them into lessons for the future, although there were times I just feel like I couldn’t take it so I just broke down BUT I made sure once I’m done with that, I would never look back on it ever again. I would just drop everything and let it go. It wasn’t easy but I definitely felt better once it was over.

So what I’m trying to say here is that, I know you must regret doing something you shouldn’t have done but instead of thinking negatively about it, why don’t we turn it around? Let’s turn “I made a mistake! This is horrible.” … to “I made a mistake. That’s ok, I’ll take this as a lesson.” And with that mindset, I can guarantee you will feel much better.

Though, I have to remind you guys that, all your mistakes, even if you think it’s a small mistake, make sure you apologize. It may be a small thing to you but it might not be to the person you’ve hurt. We will never know someone’s true feelings because they can fake it and pretend it’s ok but you will never know if the things you said, or the things you did actually upset them.

So lets all take Raya as an opportunity to drop our ego and just apologize. They might think that was insincere and just apologizing because its Raya but who cares right? You know your intentions better than anyone and even if they don’t forgive you, at least you apologized. So lets clear all the hatred, the tension, and just enjoy our Raya.

I loveeeee Hari Raya because that’s when everyone get together and just be with each other! There’s nothing I love more than spending time with the people I love…. And food. Raya food is always so good. I can’t wait to stuff myself with yummy food and I can’t wait to see everyone’s dresses tomorrow! Well I’m mostly excited for the food. Hehe.

So again I would like to say Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri Maaf Zahir dan Batin to all Muslims! May we have a blessed Eid Mubarak!

(Edited the picture myself, sigh why am I not creative)

So… I told myself that I wasn’t going to talk about CrossFit until the day that I have achieved at least something and today was that day. It may be a small achievement but I’m proud of myself for it.

I joined CrossFit almost a month ago, just before Ramadhan and honestly, the reason for me actually going was just to “accompany” Liyana cause she has been asking me to go for monthssss and I finally gave in to her. The first class was quite easy for me because I didn’t do all the hardcore workouts like everybody did. Well, since it was my first day. So I thought hey this isn’t so bad… until I saw others’ faces after they finished their workout! That, to be honest, scared me but since I enjoyed my first class so I was like why not come again. So I did. Until I became an official member. OH! AND, the fun thing about my first class was, I met my kindergarten teacher!! She’s also a member but I rarely see her now cause we WOD at different times. Hope to see her again soon!

As what I was saying…..

The classes after that were getting harder and harder for me to the point that I sometimes didn’t finish the workout. I completely gave up! Which made me upset but I just couldn’t do it that time. Though, among all the WODs, there was one WOD that disappointed me so much, which, involved running. I HATE running!! I can’t emphasize that enough. I can never run as fast as others, I can’t even jog that far without feeling tired. With that mindset, I sadly didn’t finish the WOD but that disappointment made me want to push myself harder. I told myself, Ok, you can’t run…. YET. So lets train! And the next time I went for CrossFit, I went outside to run for my warm up. (I usually row for warm ups instead of running, just so you know.)

SO today’s workout involved running, AGAIN. I was very nervous for it because I obviously didn’t have a lot of time to train but I did it anyway. AND I finally, FINALLY finished the WOD today! Despite being the last one to finish running, and the last one to finish the WOD, I finally did it! *Pats self on the back. I honestly couldn’t do it without the support from others! I felt like giving up in the middle when I saw it was almost time to stop but their support kept me going. I can’t thank them enough. So yay! Ran today, and actually finishing a WOD. *happy dance! Even though the moment I finished, I dropped down and just lied there for a solid 2 minutes (or more). Not even kidding.

One step at a time,
One day at a time.

Let that sink in for a while. What does that mean to you?

If you've been keeping up with this blog, you'll know that being on a break from Uni definitely did not mean a break from work and responsibilities for me. I thought I'd be stress free for 3 months but that's not what is happening right now.

At times, I find myself stressed out to the point where I am demotivated beyond words. I stress out about things that have yet to be done, and I just want to do them all in one go. But we all know what that will turn out. There are so many things I want to do and achieve but all I end up doing is nothing.

Trying to do everything at once results to not getting anything done at all.

That's when this phrase comes in handy.
One step at a time,
One day at a time.

1. I try to be patient with myself.
I am naturally not a very patient person. When things don't go well or according to plan, I lose my temper and drop everything I initially plan to do. I get mad at myself for not being to fulfill my own expectations, and I rush through a lot of things that should not be rushed. This is something I'm trying to improve about myself because a little bit of patience can go a long way.

2. I try to plan my day.
Every night, I try to look through the list of things I need to get done the next day to mentally prep myself of what I should expect and remind myself of errands or meetings that I need to attend to. I also check upcoming events, speeches or deadlines I have in the next few days or week to keep myself on track.
Now, this is quite a challenging task for me because as I have mentioned, I am not a very patient person and I can't stand having to sit and look over my planner for just a few minutes because my mind is urging me to go do something else. However, I think this is crucial step that needs to be done every day to ensure that you have an efficient tomorrow! This is another thing I am trying to improve about myself.

3. Stick with it!
It's one thing to plan, it's another thing to actually carry out those plans. If you put that Pro in Procrastination like I do, we both need to work on that! Procrastination is a habit probably 99% of people possess, so don't worry you're not alone! But just because everyone else is doing it, it does not mean you shouldn't try to grow out of it.

4. I try not to stress out on the "have-nots",
Like I have mentioned, I tend to stress out a lot on things that I have not yet done. Whenever I am trying to work on one thing, my mind will drift off and worry about another. This will distract, disturb, irritate and finally cause me to abandon the work I was working on in the first place. Productivity = 0.

5. I try to be realistic.
I have made the mistake of trying to dump everything I have to do in one thing thinking "yeah, I can handle all this. That way, I'll have a productive day and all my work will be done!" Guess how that turned out? Horrible. I couldn't keep up with things and I ended up sulking the entire day.
Now, whenever I plan for the next day, I try to keep my plans realistic and I try to keep in mind time I have for each plan.

6. Be spontaneous once in a while.
After having said all that, it's clear that a well planned out day is better than a messy one. But whenever you find the time for anything besides work or errands, nothing is better than some spontaneous fun with the ones you love. Have a meal out or just hang around with the people who matter to you. Make use of that time before you need to get back to well planned out day! :)

Only now am I jumping into this bandwagon! I am quite certain We Were Liars has been the talk of the entire reading community but I have only recently gotten my hands on it, and what I mean by recent is, last month. Hehe.

Maybe you've read other people's thoughts on this book, now let me tell you mine:

My initial reaction:
"What on earth am I reading?"
If it wasn't for the fact that I talked to my friend, Aainaa, about it beforehand, I wouldn't have continued reading. I am quite an impatient reader and I rarely give my books second chances so I'm very glad Aainaa convinced me to stay tuned.

A few chapters in:
I was already developing theories on why things were happening the way it was. Scenarios started being bizarre and I was getting more and more convinced that my crazy theories were right.

Towards the end of the book:
I WAS RIGHT!! I felt like such a genius for figuring out the most part, and if you haven't guessed it by now, I was well and truly engrossed in this book that I forgot my initial feelings towards it.

Final Verdict:
3/5 stars from me. The mystery in it completely pulled me in but I wouldn't necessarily re-read it again simply and only because it took quite a depressing turn for me and I'm not one to re-read a book like that again. However, I'm glad I gave it a chance and I think everyone should give it a read! From the title alone, it might seem like a Sophie Kinsella kind of novel but it definitely isn't. There were some dark parts, at least I thought so. It wasn't a super light read for me.

I'm not going to summarise the entire book for everyone because I don't want to give out too much details. You have to read it for yourself! But here's what you probably would want to know before reading the book:

The story revolves around a big and rich upper-middle class (or maybe even upper class) family, the Sinclairs. All is well and perfect, at least on the outside. Things took a turn for the worst after a horrific incident, especially for one particular member of the family, young Cadence Sinclair. Follow the story and mystery of the Sinclair family in this book!

Happy Reading, everyone!

Ever since the puasa month has started, I've had way too much free time on my hands during sahur so I find myself on Instagram looking at things I wish to purchase then later on forcing Sabrina to get them with me. Henna was one of them.

So the story goes like this:
One morning, I stumbled on an Instagram page (@nanazeehenna) and saw a picture of a beautiful henna design. I was immediately drawn to it and the next thing I knew, I was stalking this Instagram profile. I have never really given Henna a thought in the past or developed any special liking towards it but when I was scrolling through this page, the urge to get one done for myself grew increasingly strong! The designs were beautiful!

And then a week (or more) after that, (And after constantly reminding Sabrina about it), this happened! Hehe

Don't you guys think it's beautiful??

After watching the whole process of drawing (can you say that?) the design (free hand, mind you!) I have a new found respect for all artists alike out there! Hats off to you guys because I could never even draw a proper stick man with people watching me. I don't work well under pressure! Also I'm not very creative.

The owner of this business did these designs herself and she's amazing at it! We got the chance to chat with her a bit while she worked on our hands and she turns out to be a really friendly person! If you're interested in getting these beautiful designs on your hands in time for the festive season, she's the person to contact! Sabrina and I are so pleased with how it turned out.

And they had cupcakes too!!!

As I'm typing up this blog post, I'm admiring my hand at the same time!
I just have a few smudges because I accidentally wiped it all over my shirt and phone. Hehe

And of course, because it's fasting month, we ended our day with sungkai at Tasconi's!

Was this information really necessary, you ask? It is when the food is this good! I know I can always count on Sabrina to snap photos of our food while I continue not to care when she tells me to put down my spoon and fork first.

So it's safe to say we both had a satisfying day out!

Mission Project Henna & Sungkai, Accomplished!

I’ve been wanting to write up a post on my trip to Singapore with my mom and my cousin earlier this June but I haven’t gotten around to do so because I was still choosing on which part to talk about. If I talked about the whole thing, this post would be never-ending as I spent 5 days there and I had quite an adventure. My mom went there for a business trip and since my cousin and I were free, we decided to tag along.

Before going to Singapore I was thinking whether I should buy their SIM Card or not because obviously I didn’t want to use my phone data while I was in another country, it would cost me a lot! But then I figured since my cousin has it, I’d just be with her at all time so I won’t actually need it. Though both of our phones were connected to the other phone with the SG SIM card using the phone’s personal hotspot so I still could surf the Internet using that. (If that was confusing; we had 3 phones, one had the SG SIM and two with Brunei SIM card.)

Upon going to Singapore, both my cousin and I listed down which places to visit and when we want to go there. So we went online and found out that every Wednesday, there will be pink dolphins at the underwater world! I am no doubt, a fan of pink so I was ecstatic when we found that out and decided we should just go that day.

Below: Pictures of a pink dolphin I took!

After visiting the ever so adorable pink dolphins, we figured we would go shopping at Vivo City before heading back to our hotel. I went to several shops there but I spent a lot of time at this one particular shop, which was Cotton On. Both my cousin and I knew I would take a while to finish shopping there because I like to go through every section of the store to see if anything captures my eyes. So knowing that, my cousin decided to go to other stores to buy some stuff and we would just meet up somewhere later.

After spending more than half an hour at cotton on, I decided to go to our meet up point but when I reached there I couldn’t find her so I figured she was still shopping at other stores. I wanted to ask her whereabouts but I couldn’t connect to any of the Wi-Fi there so I was just going around, trying to look for her but obviously couldn’t! So I told myself, I’ll just go back to Cotton On and wait for her there BUT as I passed a few shops, I noticed that I was connected to the Wi-Fi! So I quickly checked and I was connected to the personal hotspot so I went back to the few shops to see if my cousin were there and as I passed a sports shop, there she was, picking out jerseys for her brother.

I laughed to myself as I entered the store because I found it so funny on how I managed to find my cousin using that. But then after that I thought, hey, I was connected to the Wi-Fi, I should have just texted her instead of searching for her in every store I passed by. Sigh Bimbo moment right there but no worries, I love living life on the edge. You know what they say, everyday calls for a new adventure, and searching for my cousin like that was definitely a tiny part of it.

So lesson for today is guys, always switch on your hotspot so it would be easier for them to find you or the other way around BUT make sure, if you’re connected to the Wi-Fi, please text them instead of being so adventurous and trying to search for them in every store like how I did. *facepalms

On a side note, I survived going around Singapore thanks to my cousin. She did basically everything; she checked spots on where to go, how to get there, how much money we needed, even before we went to Singapore. I am so thankful and so amazed by her, thank you dear cousin! So here gorgeous, this post is for you.

Semester break so far has been nothing but thinking ahead for the near future. With my second year of Uni just around the corner and my Discovery Year next year, you can say that my stress level is starting to peak again.

For anyone who doesn't know what Discovery Year is:
The university I go to, UBD, gives students the opportunity to either study or work outside the campus for a year when they reach their third year. Students with a high GPA are given the chance to study abroad fully funded by the university. There are more detailed explanation to this, of course. But this is the gist of it.

Now, in order for me to be sent abroad fully funded by the university, I have to score a GPA of above 4 for next semester alone. This is because the cGPA (total GPA for 3 semesters) has to be 3.8 and above to fully qualify for the Study Abroad Programme.

Last semester was chaotic to say the least, which led to a fall in my grades. To make it up, I have to work extra hard next semester. However, this does not mean I am ready to give up everything I love to do, (i.e. public speaking, etc.)

There has not been a day where I did not doubt myself. I doubted my capabilities. I doubted my ability to make it.

People have been asking where I plan to go for my Discovery Year and I can never give them a straight answer. I always answer them with "It depends on my grades". My answer alone showed that I doubt myself. And if that didn't give it away, I'm sure my facial expression did. To my surprise, I don't remember anyone reacting with sympathy. No one gave me a single look of pity and told me "It's okay, there are other options". Everyone looked at me straight in the eye and said something along the lines of "Why do you always doubt yourself? You'll make it" and "C'mon, you know you can". Although I don't say it to everyone, these encouraging words are what keeps me going. To know that people out there believe in me and what I can do is enough to make me get back up.

Whether I succeed or fail to get my goal in the end is besides the point. The point here is, there are people who believe in me and it just shows that I should at least have an ounce of belief in my abilities too. Maybe then things will work out for the better.

Here's to a better GPA for my third semester!

It's that time of the year again! How blessed we all are to see Ramadhan for another year.

To me, this year felt like it just started. I still remember New Years Day where I celebrated with a nap on the living room couch. Among all the other years, this year takes the cake for the most laid back New Years celebration ever. But compared to any other year as well, even though only half way through, this year has got to be my happiest one yet.

Now, everyone knows being happy comes with it's challenges. The challenges I have faced this year were tough. It made me burst into tears more times than I would like to admit and it made me question my purpose in life a whole lot. However, I overcame them anyway. It was not easy but I did. These challenges led to my achievement in so many things. These achievements will be forever stored and framed in my heart and mind.

The people I've met and spent my time with this year play a huge role in my success and happiness, and for that, I will be forever grateful. Without their love and support, pushing through every obstacle would've been next to impossible.

There are so many wonderful things to be thankful for this Ramadhan and there is no better way to show how grateful I am than to take this holy month as a stepping stone to not only be a better Muslim, but also a better person.

I hope everyone else has about the same idea in mind and I wish you all a very very blessed Ramadhan. May we all see the end of this beautiful month as better people together!

Selamat Berpuasa to all my Muslim friends and family!

Liyana

As mentioned above by Liyana, it's that time of the year again! Syukur Alhamdulillah that we are all still alive and well to welcome this holy month of Ramadhan again.

Ramadhan is probably the month that I have been waiting for every single year, the feeling of Ramadhan to me is just indescribable. Every year I always have goals that I need to achieve during Ramadhan, and sadly, I have yet to cross out any one of them in my list *sigh* but not to worry, I am not giving up as I still can try to achieve them this year.

Completing Taraweh for the whole month has always been one of my goals during Ramadhan. Well I know it's impossible for us ladies, but I'm talking about those days where we can actually perform them. I have never surpassed 10 days or 15 days of Taraweh, and I want to change that. I long for the feeling after completing them for the whole month (or the days we can actually perform them) and if that day comes, I will be sure to write it down in my achievements list!

Reciting the Al-Quraan and actually finishing the whole Juz in this holy month is also one of them. This is a bit hard for me to do because I tend to sleep off my hunger than do anything else but again, inshaAllah, I want to change that. I will try to complete one Juz in a day, if I can. Although I know that is not impossible as I see people do it all the time, even during other months.

Third, would probably be... Me, cooking for Iftar. I am one of those ladies who can only cook simple meals, when I say simple, I mean really simple but I have always wanted to try to cook other food as well. I don't spend much time in the kitchen cooking as how I do in baking because I love to bake! Though, I guess it's time to step up and actually know how to cook real (and yummy) food. Since today is the first day of puasa, I shall try to cook something for Iftar later.. (and I'll be going on youtube to find food that I can cook after this).

On a side note, I have to tell myself to do something productive and beneficial this Ramadhan because I tend to get sad whenever I look back on my pervious years during Ramadhan and knowing I did not do anything that's beneficial that can help others, or to improve in myself when we know that this month is all about that. I am ashamed and I am determined to change that.

So I guess to me Ramadhan is the time to improve myself to be better, not just for now but for the hereafter as well. Although I have to put it out there that I am only human, I make mistakes and sometimes I get side tracked but I am trying my best to be the better version of myself than how I was a year a go.

With that I would like to wish every one of my muslims family and friends a very blessed Ramadhan, and I would also like to apologize for any of my wrongdoings, whether intentionally or otherwise. Let's hope this Ramadhan will help us to better ourselves and let's hope it will be better than the last! InshaAllah.

*blows off dust on our blog. Shoo dust; we don’t want people to get sick.

So today was kind of an off day for me, as I didn’t have anything to do and knowing that, I told myself to stay up last night and if you are close to me, you would know that I would already be asleep even before the clock strikes twelve. The earliest I could go to bed is at 9 – 9.30; yep, I am that old. I don’t know why though but I get really sleepy at those times and I just have to sleep it off or else I would get a headache. BUT I will not go in detail about how I actually have an old soul because I have another reason for writing this post.

I knew I didn’t have things to do today so I stayed up last night (as mentioned above) and of course knowing my body and my brain, I need at least 6 hours of sleep and I ended up waking up late this morning as well. And let me tell you… I’ve never felt so good in so long! I was SO happy that I got the chance to wake up late and stay in bed the whole morning. I was basically just lazy-ing around and I realized that it’s been a while since I got the chance to do that. I forgot how amazing it felt and so, I told myself that I should do this more often; I should give myself off days like these to recharge. Being busy is fun because you have things to do but having days to just stop and drop everything feels amazing too.

I know people, including myself have no choice but to constantly do our work BUT I feel that we need to step back and smell the flowers. Life is too short to worry about those things all the time, we might feel guilty not doing anything but I know we will be doing ourselves a favor. We shouldn’t be overworking our brain, that precious thing needs rest too and not to mention our body as well.

So even if you’re busy with your work, your revisions (I know most of you guys are going to sit for big exams soon, GOOD LUCK!) and everything else BUT make sure you take a day off! Sleep in, make yourself some tea, read your favorite book, watch your favorite TV shows and just relax! Don’t overwork yourself; don’t stress yourself; stop and look around, time will not wait for you; you have to catch it every single time. You might feel guilty because you’re not doing your work but then it’s ok to just have a day without all that. At the end of the day you will be thankful for giving yourself a chance to breathe, and you will also be more energized to continue your work the next day.

So please just give yourself a day off to relax; you need it, your body needs it, your brain needs it and you definitely deserve it!

So if you're a UBD student, you're part of the RESULTS ARE OUT hype. Yes guys, results were released just a few hours ago and my group chats on WhatsApp were filled with crying emojis. Intense? No, not exactly. This happens every time.

My results, you ask? I wasn't satisfied. Enough to get through but if you knew me at all, you know I am nowhere near satisfied.

However, let me tell you why I'm not all that sad about it.

If you knew me, you know I am almost incapable of counting my own change in a restaurant.
This goes to show that Maths is nowhere near my favourite subject. But guess what was one of the compulsory degree core I had to take last semester? Yeah, statistics. How did it go, you may ask? Horrible. The lectures were horrible. The assignments were horrible. The exam was horrible. I am not exaggerating when I say that I did not understand a thing the lecturer said in the last few classes. Not only that, I COULDN'T SEE THE BOARD. AND IT WAS A BOARD FILLED WITH NUMBERS. I kid you not, it was hell. I carried the terrible thought that I was going to fail the module because I knew nothing. But I scraped the bottom of the barrel by doing all I can to push through even though I knew the chances of me scoring were slim. With the help of my good friends, I made it. I did not pass with flying colours but I made it through. If you were in my position and you knew how bad I am at maths, you'd would give me the chance to at least be happy about the fact that, I, Liyana Sidek, did not fail statistics.

I was in a class filled with students who knew what they were taking from the first day they stepped foot in the lecture.
I took all the same modules as my 3 girls. All, except for one. Accounting. Now, I have never taken accounting before, ever, and I had no one with me. If you think that's bad, I had to take the same tutorial class as people with accounting background, so I had to kiss my chances of getting extra help goodbye. (Not that we get extra help). For this module, I didn't have anyone to count on for help, except myself. Friends and family would ask if I was doing alright and I'd say yes. When in fact, I was nowhere near alright. I had to go through chapter by chapter that was thrown to us in just 2 hours of lecture in a week and everything goes by in a blur. I would study for hours, on the verge of giving up every time. But guess what? I made it. Again, it was not crazy good but I made it. I did not fail. With the amount of work I put in, in such short time, I wouldn't say I'm incredibly proud of myself but I can say I'm glad I made it through.

Countless reports and late nights I thought would never pay off but God knows it probably played a huge part in saving my ass.
When trying to complete a group work, report or research, the devil in me always tells me to give up because let's be real, how many percent of this huge amount of work will reflect in the final grade? What I fail to realize is that, every percent counts. Without these group work, I probably wouldn't have made it.

So, everyone, regardless of what last semester had to give you, don't forget to look back and give yourself a good pat on the back for putting in the work. Think about all the times you've burned the midnight candle just to study and the times you've turned down an invitation to hang out just to finish a project. All these deserve your acknowledgement even if you think it does not reflect in your results.

But having said all this, I am determined to strive harder next semester even if it means having to shed more buckets of tears. I am all for it. Here's to making the most out of our holiday and next semester!!!

I have been contemplating on what topic I should write for my next blog post for quite sometime now and as you can see; I haven’t posted anything for over 2 weeks now. A lot of things have happened over the past couple of weeks; Liyana and I with 2 of our friends went for a road trip, Liyana with her BoSE competition and many more. I’m sure Liyana is going to talk about that soon, so wait for it! But even with blog post worthy events I would always get stuck writing about them so I figured I’d write about something else.

I will be turning 20 this year and growing up, I have always been so concerned with my appearance, how I speak and etc. So a lot of questions went through my mind; will people like me if I look this way? Will they want to be friends with me? Are they still going to be friends with me even if I’m not that smart? Those sorts of things. But then as I get older, yes, I know I’m not even 20 yet but I’ve come to realize something, all of that don’t matter. Regardless of whether you are a boy or a girl, I know each and everyone of us has had those insecurities before, if you have overcome that then good for you! And if you haven’t then that’s okay.

The point of me writing about this topic is that, I want to tell those people who are very much insecure with their looks and all those mentioned that, you are not alone. There are people in the world who also think the way you do but then again, I want you to change that. I don’t want people to get hurt because they over think about these unnecessary things. Yes this is unnecessary. You could be enjoying your life right now but if you over think about these things, it could prevent you from doing what you want.

What I mean by that is, what if there is something that you want to do, for example public speaking. You have the passion and the ability to be good at it but you don’t have the courage to get up on that stage because you are scared people might judge you based on your looks… Well let me tell you something, it doesn’t matter! It’s sad to think that your passion, desire, skills and all that will go to waste just because of that fear.

Honestly, people will judge you no matter what, even the prettiest girl gets judged, but that’s their problem. There will always be people who will bring you down but what matters is that how you react to that. You can choose to let them win and let it get to you OR you can go up on that stage and do what you do! Tell yourself that those people who are going to talk about you, or the ones who have, that they don’t matter. And I’m not only talking about looks here but simply anything that makes people insecure about themselves, please keep this in mind.

I met a girl once back in high school and she told me she gets insecure when talking to most of her friends because they speak English fluently and she can’t. Of course I told her that it doesn’t matter if she couldn’t speak well, just try. If there are mistakes, people can correct her and she can improve with that. So, she took my advice, she set her fears aside and little did everyone know, she joined an English speech competition and got into the top 3! How amazing is that! I’m so proud of her.

So to wrap up my extremely long post, I just want to say to everyone that you are all special and beautiful in your own way. People will judge you no matter what, trust me, they will. But you have to keep in mind that how you react to that is the most important of all. Shake it off and live your life the way you want to! Don’t listen to those people, they’ll just bring you down and you know what they say, when people want to bring you down, it means you are already above them. Secure your spot at the top! There are people who could care less about all these things and love you for who you truly are. Be yourself! Being fake will get you a lot of friends but being real will get you the right ones. So stop worrying about all these things okay? We’re here for you!

Sorry for the extremely long post!

Exams are over, the first year of Uni is done and I am back in the blogging momentum!

How I've missed this blog!
Hey guys! It took me a few days to get back to this blog after exams ended because I had to settle in. With everything going on around me and going on in my life, I hardly had enough time to take a breather!

So for my first post back, let me tell you how the my semester has been overall.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this here or not but I sure remember tweeting this multiple times - this semester has been Brutal with a capital B.

I had multiple breakdowns during the semester trying to juggle all my extra curricular activities, my academics and personal time. Everything got even tougher every passing day and I constantly questioned my decisions. I think I shed more tears than I thought I was capable of and I was in constant pain. I started losing sleep, I drag myself out of bed every morning tired and drowsy only to dread the day ahead of me. I was constantly scraping the bottom of the barrel for any extra energy to help me continue the day.

What helped me get through this semester was the success I got from all my hard work. I am definitely not saying that in everything I do, I achieved success. No. I definitely faced failures and that added on to my stress but my success outweighed all the failures I got - in terms of quality, not quantity. I hold everything I've achieved with so much pride and happiness that it eliminates the sorrow my failures gave me. And I am proud of how far I've come in a short period of time.

I've been so busy with all these that I barely had time to set aside for family and friends. Everything has been so fast paced that I forgot to feel the guilt of not spending time with my loved ones. When semester break started, the guilt was dropped on me and it hit me hard. Then I realised it was not only guilt but I miss everyone. Among those people are my very best friends, ever since high school. Most of them are in the UK now and the distance between us has been difficult.

Guys, this post is for you.
Things may not be the same like how it used to be, it may never go back that way. But it can be better. We've all shared the same school and same environment for years, but now it has changed. We can either see this as a barrier to our friendship or a chance for it to grow. I choose to see it as a chance for us to explore new things together. Why limit our friendship to a single place?
We can explore together. We can learn new things together. We can grow together.

No matter where you all are, I miss all of you very very much.

Why hello there. It’s been a while since Liyana and I have posted anything as we were sitting for our exams not long ago, literally, our papers just ended today but I can not wait another day to blog about an incident that happened, involving Liyana as well.

Our little cute friend, Wanna, who is older than me by 8 months just turned 20 last Saturday and my friends and I were sad that we couldn’t celebrate her birthday together with her as we had things to do on our own. When I say things, I didn’t really mean revisions, I honestly was sleeping most of the time during revision week but no matter, exams are over. So anyway, the next day Liyana and Nisa came over to my house to study together and we came up with an idea to do a surprise event for Wanna. We agreed to go for lunch right after our exams ended (which was today).

To properly plan this surprise event, Liyana made another groupchat without Wanna in it. We talked about how and where we were going to do surprise and what not. But, two days ago, Liyana accidentally text-ed us in the group WITH wanna in it, asking “Should we get her a whole cake or a slice?” and that’s when I thought, OH BOY. OUR LITTLE PLAN IS RUINED. Every one of us (except Nabil cause I think he was too busy studying, pshh, nerd) panicked! Wanna is the sharpest person I have ever known and I knew she would realize it right away. Though, I had a feeling that this incident would happen but I did not expect Liyana to be the culprit because I thought Nabil would be the one as he is the most oblivious person in our group. I think.

So, Nisa, Liyana and I made an SOS plan, on what to reply to the text and all that, which was pretty funny when you read our convos in both of the groupchats. Lucikly, we successfully changed topic and managed to sink Liyana’s little text mistake to the bottom of the ocean. After that little incident, we were a bit more cautious than we were before. We carefully checked the groupchat title to make sure its the correct one, whispered to one another when Wanna was around, trying to be cool about everything and etc. It was kinda funny to be honest but I knew deep down we were all just so excited!

I had to be very cautious not to let the plan slip out of my mouth because I was with Wanna the whole time, and it was a bit hard to do so. Though eventually, despite that little mistake, the surprise was a success! We made Wanna cry... well she cries at everything but I know she cried because she was surprised (and extremely touched, right wanna? hehe).

Happy belated birthday again Wanna, I hope you enjoyed today! We love you so much!

Oh, though she said she was confused about the text but she was too preoccupied to think about it.

THANK GOD.

and Liyana might seem a bit intimidating after reading her texts above but she's actually kind guys. Sometimes.
